What We Do

Our Programs

Passion for Community serves the community in many ways.

Passion for Community (sometimes referred to as P4C) collects lightly used donated furniture, small appliances, kitchen items, linens, and towels. All the basic household goods someone would need to create a home. These items are collected from all over Northern Virginia. In 2021 our volunteers picked up and collected over 5,000 items from more than 200 donors. These items are, inspected, cleaned, and sorted by dedicated volunteers at our local warehouse in Chantilly. Many of these items must be repaired by unpaid craftsman, who put their hearts into every item they restore.

We continuously raise funds to directly benefit our clients. We buy fresh new pillows, mattresses, and bed frames. We also raise money to pay for infrastructure (warehouse rent, utilities, delivery vehicles maintenance and operating expenses) that directly supports our mission. Over 90% of all that we raise directly benefits the people we serve.

P4C receives requests from various Fairfax County officials and affiliated organizations serving the homeless and victims of domestic violence. In 2021 we processed 241 requests for services from partner organizations Shelter House, FACETS, Cornerstones Inc., Fairfax County Public Schools, and the Fairfax Department of Family Services. Typically, on Thursdays and Fridays volunteers careful prep each order. During the week and on weekends social workers and clients will sometimes pick up there items from our warehouse.

Much of the activity at P4C during the week builds up to our Saturday morning deliveries. Delivery teams gather at 9:00 am to make a very personalized delivery to each client. Teams are made up of volunteer families, some with kids, and individuals that are passionate about the mission, and really care about the clients they are serving. These teams deliver to locations all over Fairfax County and Alexandria. We provide an extra personal touch by listening to clients, providing encouragement, and giving them the opportunity to receive prayer, if desired. P4C is about more than just meeting practical needs; we are about spreading hope and Christ’s love throughout our community.

WHO WE ARE SPRING (Housing Transition)

This ongoing ministry helps individuals and families transition from the local shelters into more permanent housing by providing them with basic household needs, new beds, and furniture. Recipients of this service—most of which are transitioning from homelessness or domestic abuse situationsare identified by social agencies, schools, or churches. Passion for Community provides the boost they need to get a new start on life. We like to think of it as providing hope in a box truck!

Thanksgiving Meal Collection

Every year, Passion for Community coordinates with social agencies, a local grocer, and generous donors to assemble and deliver Thanksgiving meal boxes to those in need

Christmas Gift Collection

Passion for Community partners with a local shelter each year to identify individuals and families that can experience the spirit of Christmas—both giving and receiving!  This program asks donors to contribute a wish list item that can be wrapped by a family member or friend and given to the recipient on Christmas morning.

Other Community Events

Needs continually arise and change in our community. Passion for Community stands ready to assist in any way we can!

Fundraising Events

To support our ministry and further our community impact, a variety of fundraising events are held. Our annual golf tournament each Spring not only raises funds, but also provides an excellent opportunity to spread awareness of our outreach.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
